Executive Director Ian Cion worked with patients in the dialysis clinic of the Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, making Art Blankets  over the course of 4 months.  The patients made art with simple art making materials such as watercolor, magic marker, pencil, crayon, fabric, and glue.

In addition, Cion brought  in a computer and digital drawing tablet and taught the kids to use Adobe Photoshop to put their final blankets together and further create digital artwork to add to their compositions.  The final artwork was digitally printed to a poplin fabric and  then sewn to a fleece backing.

The children’s blankets were on display at the Austin Museum of Art for two weeks prior to being given to the children.

Art Blankets made by patients receiving dialysis at the Children’s Dialysis Clinic of Central Texas.

“Few people even know that kids get bad kidney disease and have to go on dialysis.  All of my career I have seen mostly cancer kids on these projects.  Thanks for including the kidney kids who always seem to have a lot of artistic talent.”

-- Phillip L. Berry, M.D., Medical Director, Children’s Dialysis of Central Texas
